Believe it or not, that statement is very true and a lot of that has to do with the wholesale changes that WWE has made. Things like fighting champions, cliff hangers, and new characters being introduced have turned things around in ways that no one could have imagined.
WWE even hired Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as Executive Directors, which only served to prove just how serious Vince McMahon was about making WWE great again. McMahon also seems more open to change than he has ever been, thus making this a great time to be a WWE fan.
With that being said and both shows continuing to pump out high-quality content, here are seven reasons why WWE has must-see programming right now. Remember to let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to sound off about whether WWE is must-see or not.
#5 Stacked rosters
WWE has a very stacked roster right now and the company is working very hard to showcase them in the best way possible. While this also means some Superstars are ultimately going to be cast aside, it does also open up the possibility of new faces finally making it into the spotlight.
Think about it - WWE has guys like Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Sami Zayn and Ricochet on Raw, while also having Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Elias and Ali on SmackDown Live. This is already a star-packed roster and we haven’t even gotten into the diamonds in the rough they have either or the midcard for that matter!
Maybe this is just something a lot of fans aren’t going to see the same way, especially with everyone’s taste in Superstars being different, but it seems like WWE has the best roster they ever had. A roster that can take them to that next level!
#6 Sasha Banks’ return
Sasha Banks faded into infamy after walking out on WWE the night after WrestleMania 35, and fans were starting to wonder if she would ever return. Beyond that, they were also probably wondering what WWE would do with the former Women’s Champion if they ever did get her back.
The company answered all these questions and more this week on Raw, when Sasha Banks made a surprise return, betrayed Natayla, and then unleashed a devastating beatdown on Becky Lynch. When all was said and done, Banks pretty much guaranteed that Becky Lynch is her next opponent and that she is gunning for the Raw Women’s title.
Whether this storyline retains its momentum remains to be seen, and will depend on what the company does from here, but it looks like an excellent idea on paper.
Furthermore, it gives WWE the chance to blur the lines between fiction and reality, and finally explore Banks leaving WWE in a storyline.
#5 Use of dream matches
Another way WWE is providing must-see content is by going all-in on dream matches. Of course, it’s not like WWE hasn’t done this in the past when time called for it, but it honestly seems like they are putting more of a focus on it than ever before.
Fortunately for the WWE Universe, that means they will most likely finally get to see dream matches like AJ Styles versus Shawn Michaels, Bray Wyatt versus Brock Lesnar, and maybe even an encounter between The Undertaker and Sting.
While that last one doesn’t have the possibility of being an actual match, just having the two interact in some capacity would be a blockbuster moment!
In the end, WWE has struck gold with these dream matches as of late and it’s going to continue to pay dividends.
It will also give fans the once in a lifetime moments they always dreamed of.
#4 Roman Reigns saga
Who did it?
That is the question The WWE Universe is asking themselves after Daniel Bryan promised to bring the mystery attacker to justice and it was quite the cliffhanger. Beyond that, it was so sudden and the tension was built so perfectly, that those last few minutes of programming were just so intense to watch.
Think about it - fans are legitimately invested in who is attacking Roman Reigns and want to see the perpetrator brought to justice.
With that being said, and keeping Bryan’s cliffhanger in mind, fans are going to be speculating about who the perpetrator is and what his intentions were.
Fans are also going to be wondering how Daniel Bryan knows who the culprit is and why he offered to bring him to Reigns next week on SmackDown Live.
It almost seems like a trap in some ways and is only going to spur more speculation on the topic.
#3 The Fiend’s character development
If it wasn’t already clear that Bray Wyatt’s Fiend character is one of the biggest things in WWE right now, his concise victory over Finn Balor hammered the point home. Interestingly enough, however, Wyatt is making waves for more than just his win at The Biggest Party Of The Summer, and a lot of it has to do with his character development.
From the creepy Firefly Funhouse segments that are filled with easter eggs for fans to find, to the truly mesmerizing entrance at SummerSlam, WWE is creating lore around this character - the lore that will surely carry The Fiend to the top of The WWE mountain and make him a mainstay for years to come!
And the best part about all this is the fact that Wyatt now has multiple characters he can switch between, which will only help him stay fresh in the minds of the WWE Universe.
It might even pave the way for him to take on other personas or add members of the roster to his new family.
Either way, it will be interesting to watch.
#2 Seth Rollins as fighting champion
There’s just something about a fighting champion that can turn an ordinary episode of Raw and SmackDown Live into something special. Maybe that has to do with how easy it is for the crowd to get behind a champion willing to fight it out against all odds, but it is truly mesmerizing to watch.
Combine that with a babyface like Seth Rollins, who plays the fighting champion role perfectly, and you have a truly powerful combination. Think about it - this man is the embodiment of the WWE Universe, it’s anger at the older product and its desire for long-lasting change in the company. That’s a very powerful thing for WWE to be capitalizing on.
Interestingly enough, WWE has done a great job of implementing those changes and having a fighting champion like Rollins at the helm is only furthering that.
Whether it creates the long-lasting change that fans want remains to be seen, but there is truly something special about what WWE is doing with guys like Rollins right now.
#1 Kevin Owens versus Shane McMahon
As much as fans want to paint Shane McMahon as the worst thing on television right now, his role on SmackDown Live is playing a large role in the company being really interesting to watch. There’s just so much tension between him and Kevin Owens right now and as a fan, it makes you want to tune in to see what happens next.
Another thing contributing to that is the fact that McMahon is starting to use his role in WWE to make Owens’ life a living hell.
Not only does this allow WWE to continue to build up the tension between the two, but it also gives fans an eventual payoff when Kevin Owens goes off and attacks Shane McMahon.
If nothing else, WWE has done the most important thing they can do in a storyline, and that is to get fans to care about it.
In fact, between Kevin Owens being the everyman anti-hero and Shane McMahon being simply unbearable, it’s working to put fans into a frenzy and make them eager to see what’s next.
