The second game introduces new vehicles, biomes, fauna, and dozens of quality of life changes. Many of the hidden secrets from the original have been patched, but there are still plenty of awesome things to experience. New players will want to use the following lesser-known tips to thrive in the frozen world and complete Robin’s mission.

8 Goethermal Energy Can Be Used To Power A Base

The Geothermal vents scattered across the map provide enough energy for a medium sized base and require no maintenance. Nuclear power provides more energy, but players will have to make sure they replace the reactor rods periodically.

The Tree Spires are great places to build a base, because they provide constant energy. It is hard to beat the view from the spires too. However, players should watch out for the Leviathan that roam the waters nearby. They’re not the smartest creatures, but if they have a few seconds to spot Robin, she’s in danger.

7 Flares Scare Off Sea Monkeys

Sea Monkeys can be incredibly annoying early on in the game. They are passive creatures, but love to steal equipped items from Robin. Keeping a flare on hand will keep them away from the scanner. If they do get ahold of items like the scanner, players can use the knife to knock them free.

Elusive Sea Monkeys will hide stolen items in nearby dens. Keeping useful tools in Robin’s inventory is recommended when any of these sea thieves lurk nearby.

6 Use Beacons To Save Looted Items

Gamers can use a beacon to retrieve their items if they die. Placing a beacon will mark the location where the loot was dropped, making it easy to get all the materials back.

When killed, Robin will only drop new loot, so the beacon will not always be useful. However, when mining or collecting valuable materials, it is always a good idea to bring a beacon. Those big scary creatures always seem to make an appearance at the most inopportune times. At worst, people will waste the few materials it takes to craft one, but it’s a small price to pay

5 Air Bladders Will Save Players From Leviathan

Every player should have an air bladder in their inventory at all times. The item is great for deep dives with low oxygen, but it is just as effective when being attacked. There is no incentive to fight large creatures in Below Zero, and fleeing is sometimes the only option. Air bladders can create enough thrust to shoot players out of the water.

Most of the time, whatever creature was attacking Robin will lose interest as soon as she gets to the surface. Unfortunately, the air bladder is so strong, it sometimes can propel Robin into a glacial overhang, which will often result in death. Use the air bladder wisely to avoid an unfortunate demise.

4 The Thermal Blade Cooks Fish Instantly

Getting the Thermal Blade makes collecting fresh food a breeze. Any fish killed with the knife will be instantly cooked. In just a few minutes, people can collect enough food for an entire day.

Gamers still need to keep in mind that cooked food will spoil, whereas raw fish can be stored. In a pinch, the Thermal Blade is an incredible tool to have. When it comes to slaying bigger threats though, the tool listed below is a better option.

3 The Propulsion Cannon Is A Weapon Too

Most gamers only use this tool as a way to catch fish and mine. The cannon can take own even the most menacing sea creatures in just a few pulses. Gamers should consider using it as a weapon when faced with any type of danger in the water. Players will be surprised by how powerful it actually is.

The cannon can be used to achieve hypersonic speed as well. If an items is picked up with the cannon while a booster tank is active, Robin will zoom through the water faster than the sea truck. Everyone needs to try the glitch before Unknown Worlds decides to patch it.

2 Sea Monkeys Will Bring The Player Free Items

These tricksters will become helpful friends later in the game. If players ping a resource they need, nearby Sea Monkeys will try to find the item and bring it to Robin.

It seems after getting to know Robin, the monkeys had a change of heart and decided to stop their thievery. The best thing about the Sea Monkey delivery system is that they will bring high-value mined materials that are extremely useful in the endgame. Pinging materials can save explorers lots of time.

1 Spin In The Sea Truck To Collect Fish

It is difficult to snag fish while in the upgraded Sea Truck. Performing a drive-by or a drift works, but only for a few fish. By spinning the truck and tapping grab, Robin will be able to get dozens of fish in a school in a relatively short amount of time. However, using this method will certainly cause dizziness. Unless players take Dramamine before playing, spinning for more than a few seconds is not recommended.

Shallow water areas typically have the most free roaming fish, so searching those zones is a good starting point. Unfortunately, the method will not work for larger creatures.
