Whether you’re an existing Viber user or you’re planning to download it, here are eight exciting Viber features you should check out.

1. Change the Background on Viber

Viber has a light design with purple tones by default, but you can change that! The app lets you choose between Classic, Dark Blue, and Black themes. To switch to the dark version of Viber, all you have to do is tap on More > Settings > Appearance.

If you prefer something a bit more fun, Viber lets you choose a background image for your chats.

Below the themes, you have an option to Change default background. Tap on that, and set one of the many default backgrounds that come with Viber. You can also choose an image from your phone or take a picture.

However, these options will change the background image for all your chats in the app. Additionally, you can have a different background picture for each contact.

To do this, first, open the chat where you would like to change the background. Swipe left and tap on Background. From there, you can choose one of the default backgrounds or an image on your phone.

2. Block/Unblock Viber Contacts

If you wish to block incoming chats/calls from a specific contact on Viber, simply open the chat of the person you wish to block, swipe left, and tap on Block this contact. To unblock the contact, you must open their chat, swipe left, and tap on Unblock this contact.

If you cannot find the contact you blocked, go to More > Settings > Privacy > Block list. Here you will have a list of all the contacts that you blocked.

3. Clear, Delete, and Mute Viber Chats

Clear Chat Content

Sometimes, when we are a part of a group chat that sends way too many messages or media files, it can really clutter up our phone storage. Viber allows you to remove all the content from your chat without removing the conversation thread.

All you have to do is open the chat you wish to clear, swipe left, and tap on Clear Chat Content. This will delete all the media files from that chat.

Delete Messages/Chat

Have you ever accidentally sent a message to the wrong person? We’re confident most of us have done that at some point. But, do not worry because Viber allows you to delete your messages one by one.

To delete a specific message, tap and hold the message you wish to delete. From the menu that will pop up, tap on Delete and then Delete for everyone. Keep in mind that the other person will know that you deleted a message, but they will not know what that message was.

You can also delete messages that somebody has sent to you in the same way you would delete your own. But these messages are only deleted from your phone.

If you want to delete an entire conversation, go to the desired chat, swipe left, and tap on Delete this chat.

Mute Chat

If you do not want to delete a conversation, but you also do not want to be a part of it, you can mute specific chats without anyone knowing.

The Mute chat option will not inform you of any incoming messages or calls from that chat, and nobody will know! You can mute the conversation for a specific time period or until you turn it back on. To do this, open the thread you wish to mute, swipe left, and tap on Mute chat.

4. Hide Your Online Status and Disable Read Receipts

If you do not want others to know that you are online and have read their messages, all you have to do is set your app preferences.

Go to More > Settings > Privacy, and you will find the toggles that allow you to turn off the online and seen statuses.

5. Create a Group Chat on Viber

Besides private one-on-one conversations, Viber also lets you create group chats, make group voice and video calls, making it an excellent app for group projects if you’re a student.

To do this, you need to create a group chat first. Tap on the chat bubble at the bottom right of the app, then tap on New Group. You will get a list of all your Viber contacts, and you can tap on them to add them to the group.

After that, you can select your group’s name and profile picture and choose whether you want a standard Group chat or a Community. Once you’re done, click on the checkmark at the top right corner of the screen, and you’ll create your group.

6. Share Your Location on Viber

Viber allows you to share your location with other users through the app. You can do that through the embedded location sharing feature of Viber, or you can use maps.

To do this, open the chat of the contact you wish to share your location with, swipe left, and tap on Attach location always. This will require you to allow Viber to access your location. You can disable this option whenever you want.

7. Create Custom Stickers on Viber

Another great Viber feature is creating custom stickers or editing existing ones. We’ve already covered how to make custom stickers on Viber in detail.

Besides creating stickers, Viber allows you to doodle on any photo you have received or sent through the app. To do this, select the picture, tap on the three dots menu, and choose Doodle on this photo. You can play around with many brush options, colors, erasers, you can add more pictures, and you can even add existing Viber stickers to the picture.

Once you are happy with your edits, click on the Send button, and you will send it to your friend. You can also save the edited picture without sending it to anyone. To do this, click on the Download icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.

We tend to send many photos and videos to our friends through Viber, and after some time finding specific media that we sent can be quite a challenge.

This is why Viber allows you to browse specifically through the media that you’ve sent or received on the app. Therefore, you don’t have to browse through the entire chat history to find that one picture.

To do this, enter the chat room where you’ve shared the media before, and swipe left. Then tap on Media, links and files, and you will get to see all the photos, videos, links, voice messages, files, and GIFs that you sent or received in that chat room.
